Follow Up Boss integrations · BuildMOON SHERPA / LABS

The API is open.
The wiring is the work.

Follow Up Boss has a REST API and webhooks, but not every tool connects natively. See what CallRail, email parsers, and custom builds each involve.

Field guide / Wiring a call into the CRM

What happens after the event arrives?

Most custom Follow Up Boss connections receive an event, match the contact, and write the result back. Each step has its own failure mode.

01 / The short answer

Native where it exists, API where it doesn’t.

Follow Up Boss offers a documented REST API and webhooks, so almost any tool that can send or receive an HTTP request can be connected. Built-in features and listed integrations cover the common cases, including lead parsing from supported portals and forms. Everything else, such as a call-tracking tool like CallRail, is an integration-platform or custom build that reads an event from one system and writes a contact, event, or task into the other.

02 / The common pattern

Most custom connections follow the same three steps.

Whether the outside system is a call tracker, an inbox, or a form, the build usually looks the same. The differences are in the details you handle at each step:

01

Receive the event

A webhook or API call announces that something happened: a call ended, an email arrived, a form was submitted. Confirm the payload carries the identifiers you need.

02

Match or create the contact

Decide how to recognize an existing person, usually by phone or email, so a repeat caller updates a record instead of creating a duplicate.

03

Write back and log it

Record the event, note, or task against the contact so the team sees what happened where they already work, and so a failed write is visible rather than silent.

03 / Choose a route

Three routes, and what each one asks of you.

04 / Before you build

Three questions to settle first.

What exactly should happen after the event?

Name the single outcome, such as a logged call and a follow-up task for the assigned agent. A vague goal produces a connection that moves data but changes nothing for the team.

How will you avoid duplicate contacts?

Choose the matching key and the behavior on a near match before writing any records. This is where most no-code flows quietly degrade as volume grows.

Who notices when it fails?

Decide where errors surface and who reviews them. An integration nobody monitors is a liability by the time the first webhook is missed.

The questions behind the question.

Does Follow Up Boss have an API?

Yes. Follow Up Boss offers a documented REST API and webhook system that reads and writes contacts, events, deals, tasks, and pipeline stages. Webhooks fire on events like lead.created and task.completed, which lets an outside system react in near real time. The full reference is at developer.followupboss.com.

Does Follow Up Boss integrate with CallRail?

Not natively. Follow Up Boss’s own integration list doesn’t include a built-in CallRail connection. Both tools expose what a call-tracking integration needs, though: CallRail can fire a webhook when a call completes, and that payload can create or update a contact and log the call as an event through the Follow Up Boss API. In practice that is an integration-platform or custom build.

How does Follow Up Boss parse leads from email?

Follow Up Boss can parse structured lead emails through its own forwarding address, which covers most supported portals and web forms. A messier inbox, a source that doesn’t match the expected format, or a workflow that must route or enrich the contact afterward usually calls for a separate parser integration layered on top.

Should I use an integration platform or a custom API build?

Start with an integration platform when the trigger and action are both supported and the volume is modest. Move to custom API work when you need conditional logic, de-duplication, enrichment from several systems, or an audit trail an off-the-shelf connector can’t give you. Confirm current limits and pricing with each vendor.

Can an AI assistant connect to Follow Up Boss?

Yes, through the API directly or through an MCP server that exposes a defined set of CRM actions to an assistant. Follow Up Ace takes the MCP route: authenticated and role-scoped, with outreach drafts reviewed before anything is sent.
